Although this platform, the therapy and the groups are primarily run by me at this moment - It is not 'mine'. I have had amazing support and help along the way and am open to sharing this platform with others on a similar path. I welcome your comments, suggestions, links to your groups and work ... and I need help with this website (design, graphics, content, editing, news, ... setting up a related blog).
In 1978 I co-founded the first Men's group in Aberdeen and since then have participated in and ran a range of men's groups.
I trained in, work with, and teach: Arts Therapies, Gestalt, Family Constellations, Aikido and Shamanic Earth Wisdoms and Dance.
Over the decades I have been involved in a range of social, environmental, educational and spiritual projects.
Over 1994 to 1998 I taught anger and stress management to open groups and in businesses. This developed into specialised courses for men in Pentonville Prison and for Camden Youth Justice and Probation services.
I participated in and founded various EU Socrates projects focussing on gender and men's issues, including:
- TRESOR (2001-03) - I directed this training, developing reflective empowerment methods for trainers of adults in risk of exclusion.
- SHE (2003-05) - I Supervised the running of self-esteem groups for women. and wrote the trainers manual.
- Dialogue between the Genders (2005-07), Founder director - training trainers to facilitate listening between the genders
- Gender Loops (2006-08) - Providing methods and materials to implement gender issues in primary education
After childhood in a quite dysfunctional family, 4 years in a boys boarding school, 4 years in the Army and 4 years immersed in the oil business .... my ideas of masculinity and relationships were seriously distorted. Then after periods of loneliness and depression I found support in a few political and spiritual groups in Aberdeen. Our first men's group emerged from this in 1978.
My therapeutic approach is characterised by bringing consciousness, innocence, humour and love into the deeper and darker areas of our experience and emotions, re-membering our joy and creativity as part of the great oneness. Over the last 15 years I also study and incorporate shamanic and Earth wisdoms into my life and work .
